The Polish Internal Security Agency, in cooperation with other services, detained eight people in recent days in different parts of the country suspected of preparing sabotage, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on social network X. The case concerns, in particular, the reconnaissance of military facilities and elements of critical infrastructure. Later, the spokesperson for the special services coordinator, Jacek Dobrzyński, reported that in recent months, the special services have detained 55 people.
On October 16, the special services detained a 21-year-old Ukrainian citizen who was conducting reconnaissance activities in Poland and Romania. Simultaneously, two other Ukrainian citizens, who closely cooperated with the suspect, were detained in Romania, as noted in the statement published on Tuesday on the Agency's website.
According to preliminary information, the detainees, acting in the interests of Russian special services, were preparing to send packages to Ukraine containing explosive and incendiary materials.
«These packages were supposed to self-ignite or explode during transportation. The goal of the planned actions was to intimidate the population and destabilize the European Union countries supporting Ukraine», explained the Polish prosecutor's office, noting that the packages were intercepted by Romanian special services before the explosion.
Jacek Dobrzyński also reported that recently two people were detained in Biała Podlaska, and two more in the Silesian Voivodeship, all of whom were engaged in reconnaissance and espionage. In addition, a man was detained in the Pomeranian Voivodeship on charges of arson.
