The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has included politician Ilya Yashin in the list of those prohibited from entering the country. This is stated in the certificate that the politician published on his Telegram channel.
The extract from the Ministry of Internal Affairs database states that Yashin is prohibited from entering 'for the purpose of ensuring the defense capability or state security'. As noted by 'Mediazona'*, such a ban can only be imposed on a foreigner or a stateless person, as the law states that a Russian citizen cannot be prohibited from returning to the country under any circumstances.
Therefore, to comply with formalities, the certificate for Yashin states 'Citizenship: Stateless', meaning a stateless person.
'Who decided to deprive me of Russian citizenship, which I received at birth? What was the procedure? How does this decision relate to the direct constitutional prohibition on depriving Russians of citizenship? If the information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, presented in court, is confirmed, then we are dealing with an important precedent and a new twist of arbitrariness by Putin's regime', wrote Ilya Yashin on his Telegram channel.
* Recognized in Russia as 'foreign agents'.
