ECHR: 'Such fines are equivalent to a form of censorship'
On October 22, 2024, the European Court of Human Rights issued a decision on the case regarding the fine of The New Times amounting to 22 million 500 thousand rubles, which became the largest fine in the history of Russian media. The court ordered the Russian state to pay NT material damages in the amount of 289,670 euros and 10,000 euros to the editor-in-chief and CEO Yevgenia Albats*
