The Kiev District Court of Simferopol sent a 19-year-old local resident to a pre-trial detention center in a case of preparing a terrorist attack and illegally acquiring explosives, reported the FSB press service.
According to the investigation, the man was preparing to murder a 'high-ranking Ministry of Internal Affairs officer' in the annexed region using an explosive device provided by the Ukrainian side.
'The suspect rented an apartment opposite the residence of the target, where he organized surveillance using a video camera to identify the personal vehicle of the target, and also received components for an improvised explosive device from the adversary through a cache,' the special service's message stated.
During a search, a ready-to-use shrapnel IED with an explosive mass of more than 400 grams was discovered, which he was supposed to plant to blow up under the personal car of a police officer, claims the FSB. After committing the terrorist act, the suspect planned to move to a permanent residence in one of the European countries.
The detainee gave a confession on camera, repeating the charges.
