The Tagansky Interdistrict Prosecutor's Office reported that it has submitted a criminal case to the court against Boris Akunin on charges of non-compliance with the duties of a 'foreign agent'.
According to the investigation, from February to August 2025, the writer 'on his controlled channel' posted at least 76 publications without the foreign agent label. The maximum penalty under this article is two years of imprisonment.
In July, the writer was already sentenced in absentia to 14 years in prison for 'public justification of terrorism', 'assisting terrorist activities', and evading the duties of a 'foreign agent'
Akunin was recognized as a foreign agent in January 2024, and in December 2023, the writer was included in the Rosfinmonitoring register of 'terrorists and extremists'.
