A criminal case was initiated against him for illegal border crossing, the teenager faces up to two years in prison

Polish border guards handed over to the Russian side a 16-year-old resident of St. Petersburg who crossed the border of the two states in the Kaliningrad region hoping to seek political asylum in one of the EU countries, reported the Kaliningrad Regional Court.

According to the regional court, which was noted by the publication «Sever.Realii»*, the teenager traveled from St. Petersburg to Kaliningrad to find a suitable place to cross the border. In August 2025, he bought a ticket to the village of Sevskoe in the Pravdinsky district, from where he walked towards the border. He then swam across the Lava River, crossed 20 meters from the border marker, and continued on foot through Polish territory, where he was detained by border guards.

In Russia, a criminal case was initiated against the teenager for illegal border crossing, which will be reviewed by the Pravdinsky District Court. The teenager faces up to two years in prison.
