On the night of October 4, Ukrainian drones attacked one of Russia's largest oil refineries — the "Kirishinefteorgsintez" (KINEF) plant in the Leningrad region.
The Governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, confirmed the fact of the attack on the region, stating that seven drones were destroyed in the sky over Kirishi. He also reported that a fire in the industrial zone was extinguished, but did not specify where exactly.
ASTRA* analyzed eyewitness photos and claims that the explosion and fire occurred on the territory of KINEF.
"Kirishinefteorgsintez" is located more than 800 kilometers from the border with Ukraine and is one of Russia's largest oil refineries. It is located in the city of Kirishi in the Leningrad region and is a subsidiary of the company "Surgutneftegaz." The processing capacity is over 10 million tons of oil per year, and the plant produces a wide range of petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation fuel, and others.
KINEF was already attacked on September 14, resulting in a fire at the enterprise, after which the plant significantly reduced oil processing.
