To solve the problem of gasoline and diesel fuel shortages caused by drone strikes, the government proposed importing fuel from China, South Korea, and Singapore by eliminating duties for this purpose, and also allowing harmful additives to gasoline, reported "Kommersant". It is noted that in this way it will be possible to additionally supply the domestic market with at least 350 thousand tons of gasoline and 100 thousand tons of diesel fuel per month.
The last time Russia imported gasoline in significant volumes from abroad was in the 1990s.
Earlier, the government extended the embargo on gasoline exports until the end of 2025 and imposed restrictions on the export of diesel fuel.
Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak proposed to eliminate the 5% duties on the import of gasoline from China, South Korea, and Singapore when transported through certain checkpoints in the Far East. At the same time, only authorized organizations will be able to supply fuel — "Rosneft", JSC NNK, and the state-owned VO "Promsyrieimport".
Also, as the publication writes, the government proposed to increase the volume of gasoline imports from Belarus from 45 thousand tons in September to 300 thousand tons.
In addition to increasing imports, according to "Kommersant", it is proposed to allow the use of monomethylaniline (MMA) — an octane-boosting additive — for six months. This will allow increasing supplies to the domestic market by approximately 50 thousand tons per month, according to the publication. The use of MMA in gasoline production was banned in 2016 due to Russia's accession to European environmental emission requirements.
By the end of September, the number of gas stations selling gasoline in Russia decreased by 360 (by 2.6%).
