«We Can Explain»* found out that the figure in the murder case of Boris Nemtsov, Artur Geremeev, changed his surname, as evidenced by leaks of personal data of Russians.
The passport with the new surname was issued to Geremeev by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Chechen Republic. Now he is Ulubaev Artur Akhyatovich, taking his father's surname.
The fact that this is the same person is confirmed by the tax identification number verification form on the Federal Tax Service website, Ulubaev and Geremeev have the same tax identification number.
Under the new surname Geremeev-Ulubaev is receiving treatment and traveling to the occupied regions of Ukraine. According to a leak from the FSB border service, on July 8, 2023, Ulubaev crossed the Veselo-Voznesenka checkpoint, which leads to Mariupol.
Artur Geremeev was mentioned in the murder case of Boris Nemtsov as the owner of one of the apartments on Veernaya Street, where they gathered to prepare for the murder and immediately after it was committed. The day after Nemtsov's murder, Artur Geremeev was caught on video by the entrance camera in the building. He left the entrance with belongings, got into a car, and went to Chechnya. For nine years, nothing was heard about him.
The investigative group on the Nemtsov murder case wanted to question Artur and Ruslan Geremeev, to ask them questions about the circumstances of the politician's murder, but they were unable to do so. When trying to deliver subpoenas to them in Chechnya at the registered address, no one opened the door for the investigator, and all investigative activities ended there. The court also failed to summon them as witnesses to testify.
The lawyer for Boris Nemtsov's family, Vadim Prokhorov, noted that another figure in the case, Ruslan Mukhudinov (driver of Ruslan Geremeev), who was declared wanted, also traveled with a «fake passport».
