The US authorities have put the yacht Amadea, which belonged to Senator Suleiman Kerimov and was seized back in 2022, up for a closed auction. The auction is scheduled for September 10, and participants must make a deposit of 10 million dollars, reports NBC News.
The yacht, featuring a helipad, swimming pool, beauty salon, gym, and two spa salons, is valued at 325 million dollars.
The yacht was seized in Fiji three years ago as part of Operation KleptoCapture - a disbanded Justice Department task force created in 2022 to track assets of oligarchs sanctioned after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The FBI identified the actual owner of the yacht as Russian Senator Suleiman Kerimov, who has been under sanctions since 2018. However, according to documents, its owner is the former CEO of "Rosneft" Eduard Khudainatov, who is also the nominal owner of the yacht "Scheherazade," which actually belongs to Vladimir Putin.
The decision to sell the yacht was made due to high maintenance costs: monthly expenses for the crew and upkeep were estimated at approximately 922 thousand dollars.
