As a result of a nighttime attack by Ukrainian drones in the Tula region, the chemical plant «Azot» was attacked for the second time in the last two weeks.
The first attack occurred on May 24, when drones hit the facility, causing a low-pressure natural gas pipeline to catch fire. According to ASTRA*, two tanks with a capacity of 750 tons containing nitric acid were also damaged. Nitric acid leaked onto the ground from one of them. The plant completely halted its operations on the day of the attack.
As reported by Reuters, the chemical plant supplies nitric acid to the Sverdov plant in the Nizhny Novgorod region, which is used for the production of octogen and hexogen, which in turn are used for artillery shells.
The governor of the Tula region confirmed the attack on the chemical plant. «As a result of the UAV crash, a fire occurred at the Novomoskovsk «Azot». The fire has been extinguished. No exceedances of permissible levels of pollutants have been recorded. Environmental monitoring is being provided by laboratories of Rospotrebnadzor and the regional institution «Nature». According to preliminary information, two people were injured, their lives are not in danger. Emergency services are working at the scene,» he wrote.
The governor of the Oryol region also reported on the drone attack on the region. «During the day, 9 enemy UAVs were destroyed over the Oryol region. In the Sverdlovsk district, three residential houses and a section of the gas pipeline sustained minor damage due to falling debris. Currently, the consequences of the incidents are being addressed, gas supply has been restored, and inspections by law enforcement and the Ministry of Emergency Situations are underway,» the message states.
The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, reported one injured person. «In the Belgorod district, in the hamlet of Tserkovny, an FPV-drone attacked a truck. The driver was injured. The victim, with a closed head injury and multiple shrapnel wounds, was taken to the Krasnooktyabrskaya district hospital. After receiving the necessary assistance, the ambulance team will transport him to city hospital No. 2 in Belgorod. The vehicle sustained damage,» he wrote on his Telegram channel.
The Ministry of Defense reported 61 UAVs destroyed overnight.
