2024.11.29

The 'foreign agents' also include the research center 'Sova' and the project 'Radio Sakharov'

Senior Researcher at the Carnegie Endowment's Russia and Eurasia Center, Tatyana Stanovaya, according to the Ministry of Justice, participated in the creation and dissemination of materials by 'foreign agents' and 'undesirable' organizations. Additionally, she spread 'unreliable information' about the activities of government bodies and their decisions. A separate characteristic from the agency stated that Stanovaya resides outside of Russia.

The research center 'Sova', which studies issues of nationalism and xenophobia in Russia, also secured its place in the registry through cooperation with 'foreign agents'. As stated in the Ministry of Justice's message, the center 'received funds from a foreign source'.

The internet radio and podcast platform 'Radio Sakharov' reports on events in Russia and the world. 'We talk about events in Russia and the world, discuss ideas and trends, reflect on the past, observe the present, and try to look into the future,' is stated on the platform's website. According to the Ministry of Justice, the project not only participates in the creation and dissemination of 'foreign agents' materials but also provides them with its 'information platform', while not forgetting to spread 'unreliable information' about the Russian authorities.

The unified registry of 'foreign agents' has been maintained since December 1, 2022, and currently contains over 890 entries. 'Foreign agents' must report their income, indicate labeling when publishing any material or post. If these requirements are not met, 'foreign agents' are subject to administrative liability, and repeated administrative fines may lead to criminal liability. In February, the State Duma passed a law prohibiting advertising with 'foreign agents'. The 'foreign agents' themselves are prohibited from participating in elections.
